The process for ordinary citizens of the European Union to weigh in on the important consultations brought forth by the European Commission is convoluted, complex, and burdensome.
One must formally register through up to three separate registries. Individual citizens, if they so dare, are only allowed to share their opinion if they can demonstrate they have no interest in the matter– seemingly contradictory for a public body to ask of its citizens.
In aiming to keep special interests out of Brussels, the EU has effectively blocked out individuals who are concerned about the laws that will be passed in their name.
What this complicated process guarantees is that only a handful of stakeholders will be able to submit to the consultations and have their voices be heard. It shouldn’t be this way.
We demand #ConsultationTransparency and to #SimplifyIt.
