Consumer Choice Center calls on Carney to put consumers first

Ottawa, ON: Canadians elected the Liberal Party under Prime Minister Mark Carney last night and the Consumer Choice Center congratulates them on their victory. The CCC will continue to promote a consumer-first agenda and advocate for Canadian consumer priorities. On issues that matter to consumers, the CCC will hold the government to account and ensure consumers’ voices are heard loud and clear in Ottawa.

“From dealing with tariffs to more choice in health care to eliminating interprovincial trade barriers and more, there’s a long list of consumer priorities for the Carney government to get to work on,” said Jay Goldberg, Canadian Affairs Manager at the Consumer Choice Center. “Canadians were worried about threats from the Trump administration, but the best way to deal with it is to build a stronger Canada through promoting better policies in Ottawa.”

One issue that CCC is calling on the Carney government to tackle right away is interprovincial trade barriers. Carney previously set a deadline of July 1 for provinces to tear down their interprovincial trade barriers, which are costing the economy hundreds of billions of dollars. The Carney government must urgently get back to work to ensure this deadline is met.

Other important issues include innovation in health care to get wait times down, reducing the cost of living, responding to tariffs through smart economic policies, and cutting red tape to get more houses built to meet the present housing crisis.

“Canadians are particularly concerned about the issues of sovereignty and tariffs, as well as other policy issues that directly affect their lives as consumers,” said Sabine El-Chidiac, Canadian Policy Associate at the Consumer Choice Center. “We will continue to fight for a more affordable life for Canadian consumers of all ages, particularly in expanding trade and the ability to afford everyday essentials, and making home ownership more of a reality.”
