SOUTH AFRICAN POLICY FELLOW
Martin van Staden is an author, jurist, and policy commentator active in South Africa. He is a South African Policy Fellow with the Consumer Choice Center.
Since 2017, Martin has worked at the Free Market Foundation and presently serves as its Head of Legal (Policy and Research). While at the FMF, Martin has authored two books: The Constitution and the Rule of Law: An Introduction (2019), and The Real Digital Divide (with Neil Emerick, 2017). He has also presented to Parliament and deposed amicus curiae briefs in the Constitutional Court.
Since 2015, Martin has been the Editor in Chief of the Being Libertarian group of publications. His writings have been published widely in the popular media and he regularly appears on South Africa’s television and radio channels.

He is the Chief Advisor for Legal Policy on BridgeAfrica’s Board of Advisors, and a member of the Council of the Institute of Race Relations, Africa’s oldest classical liberal think tank (founded in 1929). Martin was on the African Executive Board of Students For Liberty between August 2015 and August 2018, and was a Young Voices Advocate between May 2017 and March 2018.
Martin is pursuing postgraduate legal studies at the University of Pretoria.
